What is an Advance Cargo Declaration (ACD)?

The ACD — also called ECTN — is a mandatory pre-shipment document required by several African authorities. It provides essential cargo details before arrival, helping customs clear and monitor the shipment.
Without it, containers may incur delays or penalties at destination.

Is the ACD Certificate mandatory for shipments to Sudan?

Yes. All cargo discharged in Sudan requires a valid ACD Certificate.
For details or assistance with the procedure, our team is available to help.

Who is responsible for obtaining the ACD Certificate?

The ACD Certificate must be arranged by the party managing the shipment—typically the freight forwarder, acting as coordinator between exporter and carrier. It is their duty to ensure every cargo type has a valid ACD number before departure.

Does the Bill of Lading need the ACD number?

Yes. All shipments to Sudan must show the ACD Reference Number on the Bill of Lading.

Can you obtain a Sudan ACD with a draft Bill of Lading?

Yes. A draft BL is accepted for the ACD application, and the final BL must show the ACD number.

When should we apply for the Sudan ACD?

The ACD must be obtained before the cargo arrives in Sudan, ideally at least five days before vessel departure to allow for processing and compliance.
